Why you need to be chasing views – not just PBs

Trail running is about more than just PBs and Strava segments. In our humble opinion, here's what your focus should really be on...

Everything is tracked, timed and uploaded in seconds, our world has changed. Technology, such as GPS watches, fitness apps and Strava segments, have transformed the way we run. For many of us, it’s been a great motivator. We monitor our progress, make new friends and see how far we’ve come.

But with the wonder of sharing comes the pressure to beat our personal bests, go even further or broadcast our stats. Sometimes it’s not even a conscious thought process. Every run becomes a race and the love of running outdoors can get lost in the numbers and expectations.

Views over PBs

Running through nature

Pausing for a moment and absorbing your surroundings can make all the difference, breaking you free of the trap that technology can lay. Take your eyes from the watch and appreciate what’s around you – feel nature with every breath, every blink, every sight and sound.

Give yourself permission to slow down. Trail running can be exploration and it often takes us to some amazing places, so be sure to immerse yourself in them.

Don’t think of slowing down as you neglecting your performance – it’s a way to make the memory last (and it’s also great for keeping your heart rate down on those long zone 2 runs).

Feet first

Runner running through a forest

This is where having the right sock matters (stick with us…). Because true joy can only be achieved if you’re actually focused on the outdoors, rather than something else going on. If your feet are blistered, damp or sore, it’s hard to think about anything else.

Enter British sock brand Bridgedale and its collection of trail running socks. Throughout their development, these socks are tested by people like you and made for the varied demands of trail running.

They combine a close-fitting cuff (to stop debris entering) with targeted cushioning to ensure comfort is at the max.

Meanwhile, the lightweight breathable fabrics wick away moisture, reducing the risk of blisters. As does the fit, which stays secure mile after mile, so whether you’re tackling a rocky climb or jogging along a riverside path, your focus stays on the experience – not your feet.

Just the socks for you

Bridgedale Ultra 3/4 Crew women's

Summer is almost gone but the warm air is still here and the Ultralight ¾ Crew is designed to be perfect for your trail adventures in warmer weather.

The shorter crew length allows you to show off your style choice and sits perfectly with trail running shoes, while still giving ankle protection against grass, grit and uneven terrain.

Coolmax and Merino wool options keep your feet cool, giving you the comfort that you need. Bridgedale’s own T2 targeted cushioning provides extra comfort without bulk and comes with breathable mesh panels to help with rapid moisture wicking.

With numerous colour options, you can pick your style, too.

It’s a sock built for the runner who values comfort as much as performance – and for the kind of runs where you stop to take in the view.

So why don’t you try something different on your next trail – focus on the outdoors.

Choose a route you’ve never explored or revisit a favourite trail without worrying about your target. Forget the watch, stop for a moment when something catches your eye. Breathe it all in and take in the quiet satisfaction of time well spent outdoors.

The best memories are measured in moments. And with Bridgedale on your feet, you can make the most of every single one, because Little Things Matter.
