We’ve all heard the phrase ‘if you didn’t track it, it didn’t happen’… right? Now you can record and track your routes with the latest OS Maps update.

For many walkers, runners, cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts; tracking activities has become second nature. Whether it’s to see how far or fast you’ve travelled; to map out the different places you’ve been; or just to keep a personal log of your activity history; being able to record, remember and relive your adventures has become a key part of the outdoor experience.

OS Maps has recently overhauled how you can track activities directly within the app for a more intuitive way of keeping a personal log and recording more detail about all the activities you complete. See your activity history; stats for distance, speed and elevation; add useful notes and create routes from your favourite activities.

Fancy heading out on one of those wonderfully aimless rambles? No particular plan or route in mind, just exploring somewhere new. With just a few taps, you can set OS Maps to track your activity, and when you return home, you’ll know where you’ve been and how far you went. A few more taps, and you can turn that activity into a saved route to follow again or share with friends.

Take it to the next level and use that same route in OS Maps web to relive your adventure from start to finish with a stunning 3D fly-through.

Even if you’re not one to obsess over the numbers, an activity log can be a powerful motivational tool. Got a goal in mind, a weekly or monthly distance to cover? The ability to see your progress against these goals will help keep you on track (take note anyone signed up for the Walk1000Miles or Run1000Miles challenges!).

Use the OS Maps My Activities dashboard for a customisable snapshot to show activity history of different periods, and see how far you’ve come (and how far you’ve got to go). From inspiration for new places to discover and routes to follow, to keeping you on course when exploring and keeping that all important log to hit that 1000-mile goal.
