Are these the most efficient walking boots on the market?

As a brand that continually seeks to lead the outdoor industry, KEEN set out to create the most efficient hiking boot on the market. When the foot is in motion the forefoot compresses, which when combined with overlaying materials typically used in conventional boot construction, creates flex points that not only consume energy, but also can lead to premature failure of boots in this area. The addition of the accordion like KEEN.BELLOWS FLEX technology to this critical area enables hikers to move with less effort, leading to easier days on the trail and many more miles of comfortable performance during outdoor adventures. When tested against similar boots in the hiking category, KEEN.BELLOWS FLEX hikers on average required 60% less energy to bend, contributing to increased efficiency and comfort with each step.

With a striking, trail ready silhouette , the Ridge Flex WP is constructed in premium, environmentally preferred leather sourced from LWG-certified tanneries that operate on a closed loop basis to reduce water and energy usage, an industry gold standard that completely eliminates waste water. A KEEN.BELLOWS FLEX insert in supple yet robust TPU provides additional durability in the forefoot, for increased efficiency and comfort with every step. The upper has been further treated with a PFC-free durable water repellent that is safe, effective at repelling water and dirt and non-toxic, so protecting the planets’ sensitive ecosystems.

Inside the boot, a pesticide-free Eco Anti-Odour treatment uses only natural materials to break down odour in sweat, eliminating pesticides and biocides from going into the environment, so feet stay as fresh and clean as your conscience. A speed lace system allow for a precise and snug fit, whilst a heel capture system and underfoot shank ensures reliable stability and protection on technical terrains. A KEEN.DRY membrane keeps feet dry and comfortable in all conditions, while the KEEN ALL.TERRAIN outsole is equipped with rugged 5mm lugs for sure footed traction wherever you roam.

Choose from a mid (£155) or low-cut (£145) model in men and women’s specific editions.

So what do Trail think?

"The Ridge Flex boots’ combination of ease of wear and apparent ability to handle most terrains makes them an excellent choice for everything from day-walks in the hills to long distance treks over multiple days or weeks. They would be perfect for the Pennine Way, Hadrian’s Wall path, one of the UK’s epic coastal paths, or even one of Europe’s pilgrim ways or Grande Randonnée trails. In short, these are boots that will provide maximum comfort step after step, mile after mile, day after day."
