FOOTPATH HOLIDAYS has been leading the way in UK walking holidays for almost four decades, catering for everyone from first-time strollers to experienced hikers. You can choose between 7-night breaks in country hotels anywhere from the Lake District to the Cotswolds or take on one of Britain’s best long-distance trails. If you don’t fancy walking with a guide, Footpath Holidays also offers self-guided holidays and single centre self-guided walking tours, allowing you to explore the great outdoors independently. You could travel from inn to inn, around lakes, or across mountains each day, staying in comfortable en-suite accommodation with the option to get your baggage transferred ahead of you while you walk. These totally flexible holidays allow you to choose your own dates and places to walk, with Footpath Holidays taking care of the logistics so all you have to do is turn up and enjoy yourself.

Footpath Holidays is run by husband and wife team Ian and Suzanne Newman, along with their daughter Heather and support team of 20 expert walk leaders, many of whom have been with the company for over 20 years. The company is the proud holder of a Green Tourism gold award, and with a rebooking rate of over 90% customers obviously think they’re getting it right. Ask the Footpath Holidays team their favourite walking areas and you’ll get a range of answers as diverse as the range of holidays they organise. Ian’s personal favourites are the South West Coast Path and Dartmoor National Park – not surprising for someone who grew up in the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Devon-Cornwall border. Heather’s favourite is Exmoor National Park, having worked there as a full-time ranger, although she has a soft spot for the Shropshire Hills too. Suzanne’s first choice is, unhesitatingly, the Yorkshire Dales National Park, with the Lake District and North Pennines close behind. Ask the individual group leaders the same question and you’ll get another wide range of answers, ranging from woodland strolls and wild mountains to rugged coastal trails. That’s the beauty of the British countryside, so much diversity in a relatively small country, offering something for everyone.
