Perched above Ullswater, Place Fell’s south-western flanks harbour a slew of crags where some fine, uncommitting scrambling can be had. Place Fell’s biggest draw is the view from its top – a uniquely positioned panorama over Helvellyn, Fairfield, St Sunday Crag, Skiddaw, Blencathra and the whale of High Street.
Best route: from Patterdale, up the south-west flank.
