The GC is aimed pretty squarely at geocaching – a modern version of a treasure hunt that’s increasing in popularity. It’s a compact and basic GPS, but the menu system doesn’t feel quite as intuitive as some, although the colour screen has good resolution. PC compatibility is via the free Vantage Point software, but it doesn’t connect directly to mapping packages like Memory-Map so it’s fiddly to transfer waypoints and routes. It’s a tough, well-made unit – ideal if it’s going to spend long periods in the bottom of a pack – and battery life is good too.
