Berghaus Mtn AQ Hardshell Glove (2014)

January 4, 2014 LFTO
berghaus.jpg

The Berghaus Mtn AQ Hardshell Glove has most of the features of gloves twice its price. It’s built around a nylon shell with a very thin layer of leather in the palm for extra durability. You get a Berghaus AQ waterproof lining inside and a fibrefill layer of insulation. The glove did not feel as warm as higher-priced options, though, so for really cold conditions you might need to take along a liner glove to wear inside. The features are all very well-designed, so you get a nose wipe, clips to fasten the pair of gloves together and a deep cuff. This cuff is a good length to be worn inside or outside a jacket sleeve, and it has a good drawcord. The wrist leash is an elasticated design, which means the gloves spring around a little when dangling by the leashes, but that’s only a minor niggle. Overall the Berghaus Mtn AQ Hardshell Glove is a good choice at a superb price. My only concern is that it isn’t quite as warm as higher-priced options, while hard users may need a glove with a thicker leather palm for greater long-term durability.
