This lightweight waterproof jacket from The North Face is really very light, and a good fit in the body, although the short cut won’t appeal to everyone. The hood is quite tight for space though, even with three-way adjustment, and the Hyvent fabric is also quite rustly. The DIAD (Do It In A Day) sets its stall out to be minimalist and it does it well. However, for general walking use it’s a little too light and flimsy and probably won’t last as long as some. You can’t knock the weight or pack size though.
Verdict: A featherweight jacket that’s definitely designed to stay in the pack as much as possible. Perfect as extra protection for a soft shell, or for emergency use in high summer.
