This lightweight waterproof jacket from Sprayway is just right – a good length in the body and sleeves, with elastic and Velcro adjustment on the cuffs. The zip-off hood is also a great fit and it’s nice to be able to remove it when not required, rather than roll it away under the collar. The face fabric is slightly rustly, but no more than most. The excellent venting pockets give it a huge plus over most competitors, and a storage pocket for the hood helps overcome the usual fear of losing zip-off hoods! The inside pocket is perfect for a map or guidebook. The Venom is also light enough to carry and packs down really neatly in its own stuffsack (supplied).
Verdict: A great jacket with good pockets and a high, cosy collar – ideal for most walking conditions. There are better hoods out there, but the fact this one can be removed adds considerably to its versatility.
