Top marks for comfort here. The Climapro Stretch fabric is soft to the touch, rustle-free and, of course, stretchy. But it doesn’t breathe as well as the Gore-Tex Paclite used on some of the other jackets on test. The hood is great – super-adjustable and deep enough – but like most, the peak’s too flimsy to deal with high winds. The main zipper is waterproof, but the storm flap is not particularly substantial so it needs to do its job. The fleecy collar feels lovely against the chin and the jacket has a good selection of pockets – two well-placed, venting handwarmers that will swallow a library of maps, plus a zip-up security one on the inside that’s perfect for keys. Plenty of adjustment at the hem and cuffs, too.
