Rab Latok 2010

The Latok is a well-proven classic from Rab that is now also available for women. It is made from eVent, which is a well-proven top-performance fabric. The Latok is designed very much as a mountaineering jacket, so you get a slightly shorter body than some others. There are four pockets on the chest and these can all be easily accessed while wearing a harness or rucksack belt. There are pit zips too for increased venting when you are unable to remove the jacket, as when mountaineering. The fact there are no stormflaps on the outside of the pocket, front and pit zips does make them quicker and easier to operate. The arm movement is excellent – again ideal for mountaineers. The hood is great too with a wired peak, volume adjustment and a fit that is good over a helmet or head. So it has plenty of great features for mountaineering.  But other jackets are lighter and longer than the Rab Latok, which would be an advantage when walking the hills in winter for example. Also none of the zips has stormflaps, which makes them easier to open, but potentially less watertight too, which again is not ideal for typically wet British winters.

Outer 3-layer eVent
Inner none

The Rab Latok is an excellent mountaineering jacket that now comes in a women’s version with great features, but it’s quite short and lacks the most watertight zip design.
