Mountain Hardwear Typhoon

A very lightweight waterproof jacket, thanks to the use of Gore Paclite fabric plus some glued rather than stitched seams and mesh rather than sealed pockets. It is not short of good features either and you even get pit zips as well as those mesh pockets to help with any build-up of condensation. The two main pockets are sitting high enough to avoid access problems while wearing a rucksack. You also get extra pocket on the chest. The hood is a basic design that can be rolled down and secured at the collar. The fit and movement of the hood are superb. But the hood peak is massive and really lets this jacket down as it is hard to prevent it from obscuring the view. The pockets are mesh too, which means they may let water into the jacket.

Outer: Gore-Tex Paclite

Fabric waterproofness: extremely waterproof

Verdict: Great weight and price, but hood peak is too big and mesh pockets are not as watertight as other designs.
