Montane Superfly 2008

The Montane Superfly is an extremely popular multi-activity jacket. It is made from eVent fabric, which is now well-proven for waterproofness and breathability. Some seams are bonded rather than stitched to reduce weight and bulk. There are three large chest pockets that can be easily accessed while wearing a rucksack. You also get strips of reflective material for night action and a longer-than-average body, plus a scooped tail for protection when biking. The cuffs and hem don’t ride up when scrambling either. The hood is a superb fit and benefits from a wired peak as well as the ability to be rolled down and secured at the collar, which is useful when biking. The fabric feels more durable than lighter jackets, making it better than some for mountaineers and scramblers. But other jackets are a notch lighter if you are counting every gram, so the Montane Superfly is not the best if you want to travel ultralight or go running, for that reason. For faster multi-activity use the shorter jackets have advantages as they are a little less intrusive.
