Keela Simpson Advanced Jacket

This waterproof jacket is a former winner of the children’s waterproofs reviews in Trail, and it’s still a modern classic that is very hard to beat. Firstly check the price and then look at the features you get. There is a waterproof and breathable fabric with a mesh lining, so it should be comfy. You get a chest pocket as well as the usual lower pockets, and these are all zipped. There are stormflaps over all these zips too to keep the rain out. The front zip gets a large, fleecy chinguard that is effective for protecting the child from the zip. The hood is particularly good, with face and volume adjustment plus the ability to roll it away in the collar. Velcro adjustment at the cuffs and a hem drawcord ensure draughts are locked out and that the jacket fits. Finally reflective piping adds a little night security. But the fabric is not as waterproof or as breathable as some other fabrics, so in the long term you may get more condensation and the fabric’s waterproofness may wear out quicker than some fabrics. There are lighter jackets, and the inclusion of an interactive zip for a fleece is not really needed.
