The Berghaus Monsoon is a popular jacket for kids that has been reviewed favourably in Trail for many years. It is made from Aquafoil, a well-proven Berghaus waterproof and breathable fabric. There is a mesh lining to add extra comfort as well. The front zip has a double stormflap on the outside to keep the worst of the rain out. There are two zipped hip pockets too and these also get external stormflaps. The hood has Velcro adjustment around the face, rather than cords or elastication, and some stiffening in the peak. Drawcords are provided at the hem, and the cuffs are elasticated to lock out draughts. Some reflective piping on the front adds night-time safety. So a good set of basic features that should satisfy most kids heading outdoors. But other jackets are lighter if weight saving is your key need. Also the Berghaus Monsoon’s hood does not roll into the collar, which again is a very useful feature. The pockets are quite small and may not be as easy to use as larger versions. Some reflective piping on the back would be good.
