Regatta Semita (2016)
Features
The Regatta Semita is a new jacket for 2016, made from waterproof and breathable Isotex 10000-treated polyester ripstop with a mesh lining to improve comfort. There are just two pockets, but they’re much bigger than others, which makes them more useful and accessible even when wearing a pack. The hood has tidy drawcords as it’s adjusted from the rear, but this jacket is a bit heavy compared to some. 4/5
Fit
Available for men in sizes S-XXXL and for women in 8-20 – a slightly bigger size range than average. There is a little more length in the body than other low-priced options, with this jacket covering well below the waist. Hem and cuff movement is a bit less than others too, while the hood fit is very good. It offers best overall fit at this price. 5/5
Comfort
Having a mesh lining increases comfort here, and to control that condensation even better you would have to pay much more for a high-specification breathable fabric. The Regatta Semita feels robust and protective as it’s a little stiffer than other jackets, so it fends off the wind better than lighter jackets. This is comfortable for the price, but spending more brings improvements. 4/5
In use
On the hill this is better than other low-priced jackets as you get the features that matter, such as a good hood, long body and decent pocket access. I’d prefer a chest pocket and for the pockets to sit higher up, but again it is better than others. The hood is good, making it useful for battling against the wind. It’s not the lightest example, though. 4/5
Value
For the money the Regatta Semita is a clear winner, and it’s very good for actually wearing on the hill if you’re tight on cash. 5/5
Verdict
The Regatta Semita is a great hillwalking jacket for those who don’t want to spend more than £100. It wins Trail’s ‘approved’ accolade. 4.4/5
