The Gamut blurs the lines between soft shell and waterproof, being totally waterproof with taped seams. In action it feels like a soft shell against the skin, but actually resembles a waterproof in terms of warmth, weather resistance and breathability, meaning it offers little insulation and is one of the least breathable jackets tested. In its favour, it’s incredibly light, especially as it has a hood, and it packs down very small. A decent outer-layer but as a mid-layer it doesn’t really work.
