Rab Bergen/Vidda (2012)

Like the Bergen jacket, Bergen/Vidda overtrousers have been very popular with hill and mountain walkers for many years. They are made from 3-layer eVent fabric, so they provide high levels of waterproofness and breathability. For added durability at the knees there is a heavier weight of fabric in this area as well as articulation to allow a little more freedom of movement without the trousers riding up at the ankle cuff when scrambling. The waist has a wide panel of elastication and a drawcord, while the side zips are three-quarter length to allow these to fit over boots easily. You do not get external stormflaps over those long side zips, but there is a very wide internal flap to prevent any leaks through the zips from soaking your undergarments. A useful addition is a drawcord at the ankle cuff so you can cinch in this area and prevent it from flapping about too much. The overall fit of Rab Bergen/Vidda trousers is good for general hill use and scrambling, while their more durable performance makes them a great choice for rockier terrain and more regular trips across the hills in foul weather at any time of year.
