The North Face Apex Hades Stretch Pant

These walking trousers are much lighter than most here, which rather pushes them into the summer market. The fabric is comfortably thin and benefits from having four-way stretch. However, what is perhaps more important is that you get reinforcement on the seat, knees and inner leg, and ankle. This means that while these are thin and lightweight, they are also durable. The style has articulated knees, a crotch gusset and generally they allow loads of freedom to move. The waistband has belt loops and a zip fly. There are four zipped pockets, and those on the hip are map-sized. For summer the lower leg can also be rolled up above the calf and secured in place. These trousers are great for summer and trekking abroad. But they have a pocket on knee, which could make kneeling down painful if, say, you’ve got keys in there. The ankle cuff is quite wide yet there’s no adjustment, so not ideal for scramblers or muddy terrain without gaiters. These are not as durable as heavier trousers and lack some features of higher-priced options.
