Mammut Base Jump 2009

If you want a great pair of trousers for winter walking and climbing, I highly recommend these. The latest Mammut Base Jump pants come in a huge range of sizes and have all the features that make a well-cut, very comfy, light (441g), durable and stretchy winter mountaineering trouser. Abrasion-, wind- and water-resistant Schoeller soft shell fabric, a comfy high, brushed waist, loops for hold-up braces and inner ankle reinforcement for crampon clashes make them great for mountaineering. A sturdy yet easily opened double popper fly makes quick widdle stops easy. Water-resistant stormflaps on the pockets increase versatility for use in wetter Scottish winters. Side zips allow widening over large boots with a flare-style panel,
and Velcro adjustments allow for sleek ankle tapering. But the zips, although entirely usable, would benefit from a tag attachment for use with thick gloves. Velcro can lose its stickiness when very muddy. High-waisted trousers with belt loops are not to everyone’s taste, especially in summer, but for winter it makes walking comfy.
