The Vaude Defender is made from Schoeller 3XDry fabric, which is used by other brands, but this version is coarser and less shiny than competitors and the almost cotton look makes it more aesthetically pleasing. The product is Bluesign-certified for meeting environmental standards. The trouser provides a closer fit than some other models, making it better for scrambling and mountaineering, while its stretch fabric still allows excellent freedom of movement. The waist is elasticated and has a belt fitted, and there are also attachment points for braces provided, while an additional crotch panel further adds to the fit and comfort level. The Vaude Defender’s lower legs are quite a close fit but there is a calf-length zip that can be opened to relax the fit in this area. Abrasion panels are provided at the ankle cuff, with extra stretchy panels at the knees and seat. The two thigh pockets are OS map-sized and fitted with zips, while the hip pockets are zipped but slightly too small for maps. A great trouser for almost any outdoor activity; and while the price is slightly higher than others, the design and performance are slightly better too.
