This is the Ultra Light Weight (ULW) version of the standard Nordisk Lightweight (LW) Telemark. It is supplied with carbon poles rather than the aluminium poles found on the LW version to save 60g but is £40 higher in price. The ULW weighed 834g on the Trail scales, although the manufacturer states it should weigh 770g. Pitching is very quick and easy as there is just one pole to fit on the fly as the four corner poles are pre-fitted. The corner pegging points have ladder-lock adjustment, which helps create a well-tensioned structure, and you only need four pegs. There is a door on one side of the tent with a double zip entry so you can open the top if needed for easier access or ventilation. A nice addition is the canopy over the top of the door to stop rain entering this area. The porch extends the whole length of the side of the tent and is 40cm wide at its widest point, which allows good space for one person’s kit while leaving room to manoeuvre in and out of the tent. The internal height is only 86cm, but this does not slope away too steeply so it feels more spacious than expected and I could happily sit up inside. Heavier tents may use more durable materials but for a great weight and a reasonable price the Nordisk Telemark 1 ULW is hard to beat.
Flysheet fabric silicone-coated ripstop nylon
Inner fabric ripstop nylon
Groundsheet fabric PU-coated nylon
Poles shock-corded carbon
Internal dimensions (LxWxH) 220x98x86cm
Packed size 12x41cm
Easy to pitch, very light, great living space and compared with other tents in its weight category it’s a good price. Some heavier tents may be more durable in theory, but the Nordisk Telemark 1 ULW is very hard to fault. It won Trail’s ‘Best in Test’ accolade.
