This and the Rab Quantum are the obvious choice of 3-season down sleeping bag for those who want to go fast and light. However, if you’re serious about weight, the Pure 5 is 139g lighter while still offering many of the features that the Quantum does, plus a few others. The foot box is designed to provide more warmth to an area of the body that often feels colder. The same fabric is then used on the top of the hood, and the hood also draws in for extra warmth – as does the shoulder baffle that seals around the neck using Velcro tabs. The zip runs really smoothly, especially considering the lightweight nature of the fabric used. It’s also made in the EU rather than China. But warmth and weight are important factors, and the Pure -5 falls at the warmth hurdle. It might be the lightest bag, but this is because it offers the least warmth. There’s no girls’-specific option, so those on the petite side would be better served considering the women’s Quantum.
