Can’t decide between a flat-back system and a suspended one? Well, here’s one that does both. The Brenta uses Vaude’s clever Aeroflex system: while it’s on your back, pull the two red straps at the bottom and the back cinches from flat to concave, and you can set the degree of curve exactly to your needs. It then compresses around the load you’ve already packed, and gives you as much ventilation as the load will allow. Clever, eh? Plus you get a good hip-belt (with storage pockets) and well-padded shoulder straps with flexible height adjustment. There’s also a rain cover, and a big front flap for quick stashing (although views on this are mixed; see the Gregory Miwok). Somehow it lacks a refined feel, but you may decide that the versatility of the back system is the clincher here.
Extra pockets: 5 (lid x2, belt x2, open flap)
Back system: Aeroflex (hybrid mesh and suspension)

The clever back system makes it the most adaptable pack in this review.
