This 25-litre daysack from Vango uses the Air Vent back system, which seems quite sparse on padding, but actually feels very comfortable on your back, even when worn over just a base layer, with the broad, well-padded hip belt taking most of the weight. The shoulder straps are contoured and well padded, and the chest strap offers some adjustment. The side pockets are annoyingly small – not large enough to carry a half-litre flask, and compression straps would be good, to tighten the pack down when fairly empty. The concave Air Vent back system keeps you cool and dry, but it does hold the load a long way from your back.
Verdict: A good all-rounder that will definitely go the distance. It has many good features, including a rain cover and space for a hydration system, but it’d be nice to see compression straps and taller side pockets.
