Berghaus Freeflow III

This 25-litre daysack from Berghaus uses the Freeflow back system, which is very comfortable. It’s a good length, and the padded contact points are perfectly placed. The shoulder straps are heavily padded and well shaped, and the waist belt sits sweetly on your hips, bearing much of the load. The single buckle main compartment is roomy enough for a generous inventory, and the side and lid pockets will hold a fair bit, too. It could do with compression straps when it’s not packed to the gunnels, though. The only other concern is that the deep concave back system holds the load a fair way from your back.

Verdict: An excellent, well-made rucksack that will give years of loyal service. It loses out only on stability, especially when it’s not full, where compression straps would help.
