Scarpa Manta Pro GTX (2015)

Features
The Scarpa Manta Pro GTX’s upper is made from a combination of water-resistant suede and synthetic textile with a one-piece padded tongue and contoured ankle padding. There is a full rubber rand and a high-cut Gore-Tex waterproof lining. The ankle cuff is shaped and well-padded with recesses to accommodate the tongue. The Vibram Pentax Precision XT sole has moderate lugs. Semi-automatic crampon fitting. B2 rated. 5/5
Fit
This boot comes in sizes 40 through to 50 for men, and 36 to 42 for women. It’s mid-volume with close contact around the arch and ankles but with a wider fit around the toe box. There’s excellent progressive support around the ankle and a very-easy-to adjust lacing system. 5/5
Comfort
The Scarpa Manta Pro GTX delivers a refined mix of comfort and support that perfectly matches a B2 class boot. It does take a little breaking in, but once that’s done it is very dextrous and gives a high level of protection without being clumsy. Good insulation and water resistance combat the cold and damp conditions typical of Britain’s mountains in winter. 5/5
In use
Excellent longitudinal and lateral flex matched well with robust uppers allow all mountain terrain to be tackled. On approach walks the rolling action keeps fatigue to a minimum, while on challenging terrain positive edges deal with small holds and steep slopes. The resilient uppers and the well-pitched sole flex deal easily with prolonged step kicking. 5/5
Value
By no means the cheapest option, but the Scarpa Manta Pro GTX is more than compensated for by the long-lasting build quality. 4/5
Verdict
The Scarpa Manta Pro GTX is still the benchmark 4-season boot, but others are catching up quickly. 4.8/5
