These three-season leather boots from Salomon are soft and well-padded and feel lovely on, but lack the support needed for really rugged walking. Also, as is often the case with Salomon, you’ll have go up a half-size to get a decent fit. Happy enough on soft or even surfaces, the flexible midsole of the Mega Trek is quickly defeated by rockier terrain. Lighter than most, mainly due to a tiny amount of fabric around the tongue.
Verdict: A modern-looking boot that is really best suited to softer going, even mud, but isn’t really man enough for tougher, high-level walking. Not a bad price, but check the sizing.
