The Keen Targhee is a low-cut children’s shoe with a very breathable upper, making this ideal for summer walks. The rubber toe bumper is ideal for extra protection and the heel cup offers good support. Better still the wide forefoot is ideal for broader feet. But as this is a low-cut shoe rather than a boot it more easily allows mud, water and grit in. It is not waterproof either, so it’s not ideal for wetter walks. Many others have more aggressive lugs for grip and a stiffer sole for rocky ground.

Verdict: The Keen Targhee is a superb low-cut children’s shoe, but for walking in the hills a boot with a waterproof lining and more grip would be better.
