A definite all-rounder, the Proceed seems to be a great compromise between comfort, performance and fit. It has plenty of padding, which makes it great out of the box, and it’s quite roomy, which again makes it seem ultra-comfy. But it does a decent job out on the trails, especially when laced up reasonably tight. The medium-flex sole unit takes the sting out of the roughest of walking but still bends enough to make movement easy. Jack Wolfskin’s own Texapore lining keeps water out and breathes reasonably well; but the very low ankle cuff means that even dew on short grass soon sneaks in over the top.
