Asolo Powermatic 500 GV 2008

A popular 3-4 season boot in recent Trail reviews, the Asolo Powermatic 500GV was designed specifically for the British market. It’s based around a simple one-piece leather upper with a waterproof lining and a good sole unit. You get a rubber rand around the forefoot and toe for added protection too. The lacing extends further down the toes than some other boots for a more precise fit. There is a good level of ankle support, which makes these ideal for rough and rocky ground as well as steep slopes. Underfoot you get a great sole unit with perfect flex for year-round use and a good aggressive lug pattern from Vibram. There are three densities of rubber in the sole unit for comfort on every step. The boot’s tapered profile makes it ideal for the scrambler or mountaineer as well as general walking.   But the Asolo Powermatic 500GV’s heel breast is not as deep and aggressive as some winter boots. Also, the lugs on the outsole are not quite as deep as some others, so long-term wear won’t be the best.

A great, functional boot at a good price for mountaineering and scrambling as
well as general year-round hill and mountain walking.
