If you want to save weight there are a number of gas burners weighing in at around 70g to choose from, but the GoSystem Ti Fly pips them all by tipping the scales at just 48g, while being a similar price to its counterparts at £45. The weight saving comes from the use of titanium and from having smaller pan supports – in this case 11cm diameter, while the heavier models have 12 to 13cm diameter supports. The supports fold in on the Fly to make it incredibly compact, so it’ll sit very easily in the smallest of pockets on your rucksack. The burner head is also quite wide, so you get reasonable heat distribution to prevent localised hot spots on the base of the pan. In use the burner screws directly to the top of the canister and, as there’s no piezo ignition, you need a lighter or match. Flame adjustment comes via a fold-out control knob. The performance is similar to other burners of this type, but you don’t get a stuffsack or plastic case to store the GoSystem Fly Ti in. However, you can easily just drop this in with your other cooking kit anyway, so that’s not great loss.
Packed size 7x6x6cm
Pan support diameter 11cm
Weight (without fuel) 69g burner
If it’s low weight you’re after, the GoSystem Fly Ti is the perfect option, but the pan supports are smaller than other burners’.
