There are lots of burners that attach directly to the top of a gas canister, and the differences between them are very small – but the price of the Gelert Mercury Backpack Stove sets it apart as it’s clearly a great option if you’re short on cash. Like all gas stoves that attach directly to the burner it’s very light, with a weight of just 96g. The pan supports fold down so you can easily stash this in a pocket of a rucksack. In use the 12cm diameter pan supports are typical of these designs and are wide enough for a one-person pan to sit on top. There’s no piezo ignition, so you’ll need a lighter or matches – and like all those burners that attach to the top of a fuel canister you need to take care when adjusting the flame while the water is boiling away and wobbling the pan. But if you’re short on cash and want a reasonable stove that’s also very light, then the Gelert Mercury Backpack Stove is hard to beat.
Packed size 8.5x8x4cm
Pan supportdiameter 12cm
Weight(without fuel) 96g burner
The Gelert Mercury Backpack Stove is a gas burner that’s light in weight and light in price, but higher-priced options have advantages in terms of performance.
