Nalgene Encapsul Reservoir 2010

The Nalgene Encapsul Reservoir features a decent-sized screw lid (63mm to be precise) – which is wide enough to make refilling easy – and a rugged bite valve that can be twisted to lock the flow of water. There’s a magnetic clip that slides onto your pack that will hold the bite valve in place, making it easier to locate when you’re on the move. And the bladder benefits from an antimicrobial protection, so although it’s not as easy to clean as others, it should deter the build-up of gunk. Water tastes totally free of plastic. But it’s much harder to clean than other systems due to the screwtop lid, which doesn’t allow you to actually get your hand inside. This is not a problem if you’re fastidious and deal with kit the moment you get home, but a real issue for less careful individuals. You can’t remove the hose from the bladder for easy refilling but you can get it off to clean the hose. It is difficult to get all the water out when you want to dry it and pack it away.

The Nalgene Encapsul Reservoir is an excellent, functional bladder that isn’t as easy to clean as others but does do everything it needs to.
