Exped Downmat UL 7 M (2014)

The Exped Downmat is by some distance the most expensive option we looked at, but this really is a case of getting what you pay for. It’s slightly heavier than the NeoAir Trekker, but makes up for those extra 150 grams with some impressive extra features. Firstly, it contains 170g of goose down that provides extra insulation from the cold, and it also comes with a revolutionary hand pump – known as a Schnozzel Pump Bag – that doubles up as an emergency dry bag. The pump bag takes a bit of getting used to, but once mastered it’s an amazingly efficient inflation technique. Other nice touches of the Exped Downmat UL 7 M are the slightly larger outer baffles that stop you rolling off the mat and the slip-resistant material that keeps your sleeping bag in check. If you can handle the extra outlay, you’ll get a superb sleep in return.
