The world's scariest path has a rival!

In the home of the 2008 Olympics, the scariest path in the world has a rival! The five-peaked Mount Huashan, 75 miles from Xi'an City in Shan'Xi Province, has been a place of pilgrimage for thousands of years. The threadbare trail to the Taoist temple on the tallest of the summits, the 2,160m/7,087ft South Peak, is precipitous in the extreme. Hundreds of carved-out steps in the mountain's near-vertical slopes climax in a rickety planked section called 'Changkong Zhandao', which features in this short, stomach-turning video:

 

 

This Japanese TV show dubiously claims 100 walkers a year die on the journey to Huashan's South Peak, but there's no doubt it's an adventure the dead hand of Health & Safety has yet to touch...
