The organisers of the first Snowdonia Outdoor Festival (SOF) have revealed details of the line-up for the launch event. The packed three-day programme includes outdoor activities, seven sports events, camping, and live music by multi-million selling acts the Lightning Seeds, Scouting for Girls and Toploader.
The Snowdonia Outdoor Festival - or Gwyl Awyr Agored Eryri - will run from 11-13 August, with a base on the banks of Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake) in Gwynedd. The family friendly event is expected to attract around 10,000 visitors over the weekend. A presale of tickets has now started for anyone who has signed up for the festival newsletter at www.snowdonia-outdoorfestival.co.uk.
Launched by the team behind the successful Keswick Mountain Festival, the inaugural Snowdonia Outdoor Festival will replicate some of the most popular elements of the Cumbrian event. With a base at the north end of Bala Lake, visitors will have the opportunity to explore Snowdonia National Park through a schedule of hikes and gorge walks for all ages and abilities, or by taking part in the 5K, 10K and 30K trail runs, and road and mountain biking events. Water activities will also feature prominently, with opportunities for rafting and raft building, windsurfing, sailing, canoeing and kayaking, and two open water swimming events on Bala Lake.
SOF has already secured three major acts for its live music programme – the Lightning Seeds, Scouting for Girls and Toploader – with more to be announced soon. The Lightning Seeds are firm favourites on the festival circuit, while Scouting for Girls and Toploader both performed to great acclaim at the 2016 Keswick Mountain Festival.
The dedicated SOF campsite has a capacity for 3,500 people and will be located close to many of the main attractions in the Festival Village. Activities on-site will include climbing walls, a ‘free fall’ airbag, speakers, exhibitors and retailers, and food and drink. Sporting events will also start and finish in the Festival Village.
