We could have done something half as good in Photoshop but for ultimate authenticity, the Trail logo on the top of the March issue of the UK's best-selling hillwalking magazine (out now!) was actually sculpted out of ice for real.
Created by chainsaw sculptor Martin King (www.icecarver.co.uk) who has competed in the world ice carving championships the logo was cut from a single block of ice then sprayed with air to create the white frosted effect.
This was then photographed and this month, in a rather timely fashion, created the 'chilly' effect that adorns the magazine's logo of the new edition. The image (above right) shows the original transparencies of the shoot.
