He’s best known as Lord Grantham in Downton Abbey, but it turns out that actor Hugh Bonneville is also a rustic poet...
LFTO has had a sneak peek at a gorgeous video telling the story of a new album called In a South Downs Way (£12.65 on Amazon), which couples the beautiful music of composer Damian Montagu with the self-penned poetry of actor Hugh Bonneville, star of Downton Abbey and resident of the Downs.
The album is a celebration of these spectacular Sussex and Hampshire landscapes, and is the first in a series of landscape symphonies from Decca Records titled Walk Upon England.
Hugh told us: “My friend Damian played me some tracks that he and Stewart were developing and asked me to read some poetry over the wonderful music. It inspired me to offer some words of my own.”
Damian added: "I hope that listening to the album will transport people to the South Downs or indeed anywhere which evokes the beauty and peace of somewhere they love to walk."
In this video snippet, we find Hugh in reflective mood high up on Firle Beacon, pondering what it means to live and walk in these hills. Look out for more in the upcoming issue of Country Walking Magazine. www.walkuponengland.com
