Calling all map lovers! We’ve got a small announcement that we think you’ll be interested in…
Ordnance Survey is one of the leading mapmakers in the world. And we at Trail and Country Walking are unashamed cartography geeks. So we’re very pleased to say that we can now share with you, our most excellent readers, free access to Ordnance Survey’s digital service, OS Maps.
Starting with the December issues (on sale 03.11.16 for Trail and 10.11.16 for Country Walking), every subscriber to will find that they can log on and view any area of the UK at 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 scale. What’s more, you can use it on your phone offline at no extra cost via the OS Maps navigation app, or print it out at A4 or A3 to use in a map case. You can print it off and draw all over it. You can fold it into a jaunty hat if you like (it’ll be ineffective, but who cares?). And with a subscription to Trail or Country Walking, you’ve got free unlimited access for 12 months.
And there’s more (yes!). OS will also be hosting all Trail and Country Walking routes going forward, with 1000 expert-written routes already uploaded, ready and waiting. If you’d rather go your own way, that’s fine too. You can easily plot a route, complete with elevation data and estimated travel time. Or track the walk you’re on and share it when you get home.
As well as standard OS mapping you also get satellite and night maps, the latter a high-contrast, darkened map to save obliterating your night vision. And all this is available free from 1st November to all Trail and Country Walking subscribers, making it easier for you to plan your next adventure. The only question remaining is, where will you go?
