Trail magazine is launching a nationwide campaign to find the greatest mountain photo of 2016. It doesn't have to be technically perfect; it doesn't even have to be taken in the most stunning location – it just needs to be an inspiring image that shows off what you love about the UK mountains.
We don't care if it's taken on a digital SLR or a battered old smartphone – what we care about is the moment you capture and how you capture it. It could be a classic landscape, catching the first light after a winter camp, bagging your final Munro or introducing your kids to the hills for the first time – anything.
We've put together an expert judging panel consisting of Trail photographer Tom Bailey; our legendary art editor Louise Parker; Alan Hinkes OBE, the only Briton to climb all 14 of the world's 8000m peaks and an impressively talented snapper, too; Terry Abraham, outdoor film-maker and the man behind the 'Life of a Mountain' documentary film series; and Ben Hawkins, editor of Practical Photography magazine.
Our experts will scrutinise every photo we receive, before chopping the entries down to a final short-list of 20 that we'll publish in our October 2016 issue – then we'll open it up as an online poll for you lot to pick a winner.
We've teamed up with Nikon to give away a 24.3 megapixel D750 camera, plus a 24-85mm FX lens, to the winner. This camera and lens set (worth £2,049!) allows you to shoot outdoor pictures in great detail. It's streamlined for compactness, allowing you to travel light in the mountains, and the built-in Wi-Fi means your photos can be shared instantly. Visit www.nikon.com for more information.
