Climbing Technology Alpine Tour 2011

Climbing Technology are the new kids on the block and they bring some interesting and well-priced outdoor gear to the British market. The Alpine Tour is their classic mountaineering axe, featuring a bent shaft and fairly aggressive pick. The shaft bend is close to the head and the head is nicely sculpted, both of which features make it comfortable to carry when walking. The balance is very top-heavy, which will not appeal to everybody; however it is a good feature if you need a bit of extra oomph while swinging the pick into ice. The Climbing Technology Alpine Tour will appeal to those who like to mix up their winter walking with the odd easy winter climb. But the head-heavy balance will not appeal to everybody, and the shaft grips are a little fragile and unlikely to last.
