Camp Névé 2011

The Camp Névé is a simple, stripped-down walking axe. The functional adze and pick are well-shaped for chopping steps, daggering and even a bit of front pointing. The pick has a particularly fine profile with a good selection of teeth that will penetrate snow and ice well. The shaft, although lacking a rubber grip, does have a roughened surface and a workable slider leash. For such a light axe the balance, while not as good as some other ice axes, does make swinging it easy. The ferrule is sandwiched by a plastic insert, which aids plunging into snow. But it lacks some of the oomph found of other axes and would benefit from a rubber grip.
