Trekmates Cairngorm Gaiter 2010

The Trekmates Cairngorm Gaiter is a classic, no-fuss gaiter with a traditional elasticated cuff fit. The double press stud, Velcro and zip front closure are easy to use and ensure that once fitted these gaiters stay in place. I found that the lace hooks were easy to latch on with minimal fuss. The underboot strap is durable and easy to adjust – even while you’ve got them fitted – yet it still feels secure and unlikely to loosen when fastened. Being made from Gore-Tex these are breathable and waterproof, and the use of Cordura on the lower section makes them feel suitably durable on the hill. The drawcord sits at the back of the leg, meaning no comfort issues when kneeling down or scrambling.
The fit even on the S/M is very generous. However, though those with larger legs will find the generous fit to be a blessing, those with smaller calves and women (no women’s-specific fit is available) may find these too big and in this case the amount of excess fabric can prove annoying. The gaiter also sits quite high on the boot once fitted compared to others, so it could be a problem for some. These are also a fair bit heavier than others of the same price on test.

The Trekmates Cairngorm Gaiter is a classically designed gaiter that’s easy to fit but can be quite baggy on those with slimmer legs.
