A nice length, but baggy in the body and long in the sleeves, although good adjustment overcomes some of this. The hood’s rather small too. Nice touches include fleece for the pocket linings and around the chin. A heavy jacket that keeps the weather out but takes up a lot of space in a pack. Very hot in use, although pit zips spill a little. Plenty of pockets, but the handwarmers are low and hard to get to with a pack on.

Verdict: The Tarku is essentially a ski jacket that could be used for walking, but there are plenty of others better-suited to the task and at a lower price.
