Regatta Diffuse 2009

Made from Isotex, Regatta’s own brand of waterproof and breathable fabric, the Diffuse children’s jacket instantly appears to have a good, small packed size. It is reasonably light too, so grown-ups won’t mind carrying it just in case it rains. The jacket has a similar design to others with a full-length front zip that has an external stormflap to keep the rain out. There are two hip pockets and a small chest pocket, which are all zipped. Some reflective piping is provided on the front, with reflective print on the back of the shoulders. The hood rolls into the collar very neatly. On the head the hood benefits from elastication around the face. All the basics are here and the price is very good.  But others have more reflective piping on the back of the jacket. There is no hem drawcord adjustment, whereas others have this (it is a feature than can allow a child to grow into a jacket without it being too draughty). The Regatta Diffuse’s hood does not get any volume adjustment either, which other jackets do feature. The hood also has a relatively large peak, which may obscure vision too easily.

Verdict: The Regatta Diffuse’s hood may not fit as well as others, which lets this children’s jacket down a little.
