While most jackets have gone up in price, the Rab Momentum sticks at £175 and now comes in a women’s version too; what’s not to like?! The Momentum is made from eVent fabric, so it is top of the league for waterproofness and breathability. Feature-wise you get the basics of a front zip for venting and a good length in the body plus a pair of chest pockets. The two chest pockets are nice and large, making them ideal for maps and guidebooks. Also, they are sealed rather than mesh so they should not allow leakage. The sleeves are a close fit, as is the body, but the freedom of movement is outstanding too. To keep the head dry there is an excellent hood with a wired peak. The price is superb and the features are pretty good too. But those two large chest pockets are a Napoleon style, so you cannot use them for warming your hands for example. That is the main problem for me with the Rab Momentum. The front zip does not get an external stormflap, but then many lightweight jackets lack this sort of feature.
