The multi-activity jacket was voted Best in Test in 2007 and 2008, and it’s still hard to beat. The Rab Drillium is made from eVent, which is rated among the most waterproof and most breathable of fabrics. It has a scooped tail, which is ideal for mountain biking, and the arm movement allows the handlebars to be held without the jacket riding up. Equally climbers and scramblers will appreciate the arm movement. There are two huge pockets on the chest, which can be easily accessed while wearing rucksack belts or climbing harnesses. These pockets can also be used to warm the hands as they are not a Napoleon design. The pockets are sealed too so they won’t leak. The hood can be rolled down and secured at the collar, which is ideal if you want to go mountain biking or climbing. The hood benefits from a wired peak, while the fit and movement is among the best in this test. But the Rab Drillium’s front zip does not get an external stormflap, so it can leak more easily than some. For fast action, mesh pockets would be an advantage to improve ventilation and condensation control, while for night -time action reflective piping would be useful, particularly when biking. Others options are lighter too.
