Mountain Hardwear Quark

This is a superb multi-activity jacket if weight is your priority, as it tips the scales at just 258g (men’s size L). The fabric is incredibly thin Conduit which is rated as extremely breathable and very waterproof. The fabric is stretchy too, which allows the fit to be a little closer without restricting movement. There isn’t any stitching either, as this is made with 100% welded construction, resulting in less weight and bulk and a softer feel. Pit zips and mesh-lined pockets are provided for when you overheat, while the pair of chest pockets are ideal for maps or handwarming. The hood is even designed to fit over a helmet and has great movement. Surprisingly, even the front zip gets external stormflap to keep the rain out, and the body is long for extra protection. But the hood peak is too big, particularly as it is not stiffened. The fabric doesn’t feel quite as durable as some others and it isn’t rated as being as waterproof as some other fabrics. The pockets are mesh-lined so they won’t be as waterproof as sealed pockets.
