This waterproof jacket from Lowe Alpine is now made from a lighter Triplepoint fabric, which is very comfortable to wear, even over a base layer. However, it does rustle as you walk. The overall fit is excellent too. It’s quite a long cut and looser than some, but there’s plenty of adjustment at the hem and cuffs and the hood is nice and deep. The Deluge has an excellent hood, with a good stiff wired peak and substantial chin guard. This makes it feel very cosy and comforting, especially in very bad weather. It’s one of the lighter jackets of the bunch, yet still has all the necessary features for walking, including a mesh lining, effective hood and an excellent selection of pockets.
Verdict: A great jacket that has shed a few grammes since we last tested it, improving its all-round performance and making it exceptional value for money. If you like a traditional long cut, don’t hesitate.
